La Mălâncrav am ajuns spre apusul soarelui dar am mai găsit biserica deschisă. Înăuntru era chiar un grup turistic, ghidajul era în germană. După aceea ghida ne-a explicat şi în română şi am fost încântat, ca de fiecare dată, să văd la o biserică săsească un pic de organizare turistică.
Mălâncrav merită ocolul pentru că este un fel de Voroneţ al bisericilor fortificate săseşti. Este una dintre singurele biserici săseşti pictate în interior şi cea cu cea mai multă suprafaţă de pictură în frescă păstrată, datând din secolul 14. A fost surprinzător să mă aflu în acest spaţiu, aproape ortodox prin înfăţişare.
Biserica nu mai are ziduri înalte, doar un simplu zid de piatră. Ea se vede cel mai frumos de pe dealul din faţa turnului. Merită urcuşul pentru o poză, mai ales că altfel nu aţi observa Palatul Apafi aflat chiar la câţiva metri.
Mălâncrav fortified church
I reached Mălâncrav at sunset, but the church was still open and there was a guide with a group of tourists. They were speaking in German and I was thrilled, as always, to see some organised tourism taking place. The guide then explained in Romanian.
Mălâncrav is worth the detour because it is the Voroneţ (or the Sixtine Chapel if you prefer a comparison on international level) of Saxon fortified churches. It is one of the few Saxon churches with painted walls. Its interior frescoes are the best maintained and the largest in surface of them all. Because of this, I felt that the interior of the church has an uncanny Orthodox feeling.
The fortified church no longer has its massive defensive walls, but it does have a stone wall surrounding it. You can take nice pictures from the hill in front of the tower. The hike takes half a minute and from there you can clearly observe that there is another jewel just minutes away: the Apafi Palace.
